For example, in the novella, "No One Writes to the Colonel," Salma Hayek plays a character, Julia. As a girlfriend of the colonel's deceased son, she explains how her boyfriend, Agustin, died in a protest of the government. The protest was against tyranny, lack of resources after a war, and most importantly, against the new regime that distributed funds to the people. Ironically, the murderer of Agustin is never found or punished. Márquez's theme of tyranny is upheld when governmental authorities search the streets for insurgents. A corollary theme of "No One Writes to the Colonel" is the inefficiency of the police to find Agustin's murderer. Additionally, the colonel is waiting for his pension. The money from the pension does not come and his wife's asthma worsens. The colonel waits for a letter to resolve these issues. The letter, as the title implies, does not arrive. The consequences of war include his son's unresolved homicide and the colonel's wife receives no money for her asthma medication. As in this movie, "No One Writes to the Colonel," Márquez uses a central theme, such as the result of depression, war, and famine resulting from political upheaval. The major theme of Márquez, the result of political upheaval, is the chaos and the injustices that are rarely resolved. Márquez's novel, The Autumn of the Patriarch, symbolically demonstrates the political upheaval of guerilla warfare and hegemony. The patriarch, the president, is murdered slowly. Márquez alludes to a doppelganger. The president is actually a creation of a plastic surgeon. Before his death, his home is gassed and he and his family refuse to leave the palace, as a gesture of maintaining their power while another government usurps this power. In "No One Writes to the Colonel," political upheaval led to depression, war, and famine. Dr. Kendra Orr, Author Here is an example of the questions given: 1.
