It’s been seven years since Road Trip stalwarts and best friends Catherine Southon and Phil Serrell last hit the road together, but by popular demand – they’re back. If there’s one thing this odd couple love more than antiques, it’s pranking each other. It’s going to be fun. This time, they’re cosying up in a little red Morgan Roadster clutching their £1,500 spending money. The trip starts out in Bristol, where Catherine is left speechless in a reclamation yard but finds her voice in Methodism’s oldest chapel. Motoring through Clifton and into Somerset, they amass a variety of treasures, including a vintage florist’s stand, tiles, a Sampson Mordan silver propelling pencil and a vintage French wine map. Phil expertly pulls together an arts and crafts job lot.

Catherine offers up a jardinière, motoring vanity set, street lamp and an art deco cocktail glass numbering set. Phil raises the stakes with an antique adjustable bookcase, some mystery treen and flies the flag for... a flag. The second of their five auctions is north of the border near Edinburgh. Who will have the last laugh this time?

Catherine is drawn magpie-like to two beautiful jewellery pieces in Basingstoke - a highly coveted Georg Jensen pendant, plus a romantic, capstan-shaped locket. She also scoops up a hand-turned Czech vase in Farnham, as well as giving it some welly - one made of metal - in Eversley. Phillip falls for a cold-painted bronze dog and snaps up two garden ornaments in the form of a French planter and a clay rhubarb forcer. An art deco lampshade lights up his day in Hampshire, and he says cheers to a deal for a 19th-century silver electroplated tankard.

Catherine shells out for not one, but two, vintage chairs, a Murano glass bead necklace, an ebonised elephant head page turner, a police helmet and a cheese mould. Very eclectic! Phil goes all out to win and splashes serious cash on some Murano of his own, a stylish library chair, horses sculpted in leather, an elegant mirror and a set of antique scales.

It’s our last road trip with Catherine Southon and Philip Serrell as their sojourn from Bristol to the far east concludes - the far east of England that is! This time, they’re travelling from Great Baddow to Manningtree on the Essex coast in a 1965 Mercedes 220 SE. Phil hopes a restored contraption will generate a profit. Catherine picks up items as diverse as some Indian advertising memorabilia and a beautiful silver and rose-gold ticker. Phil has enjoyed the odd joke or two at his best mate’s expense over the years.
