Coin Specialist v Jewellery Expert - The road trip features a never-before-seen expert pairing: Hettie Jago, auctioneer, dealer and recent road trip recruit, is up against a relative old hand in the shape of numismatist and dealer Tim Medhurst. Hettie – Somerset-born and currently residing in Nottingham – and Dorset’s own Tim have a replica Jaguar for their week-long shopping extravaganza. The rummaging starts in Lewes in sunny Sussex. Along the way, Tim uncovers a rather unusual teapot, possibly by famous arts and crafts designer William Hutton. Hettie’s interest is piqued by an art deco figurine of a mouse that looks suspiciously like a rat.

If You Go Down to the Woods Today - The second leg of our bragging-rights contest between Tim Medhurst and Hettie Jago takes them deep into Surrey, England’s most wooded county. We begin this leg in the Mole Valley – in Ashtead, to be precise. Tim takes on several chunky antiques staples in the form of a plaster bust and some salt-glazed Toby jugs. Hettie, meanwhile, makes some more delicate selections, picking up an Italian gilt box and an elegant brass dancing figure. The pair also pay a visit to Brooklands, the former racing circuit which played a crucial role in the history of aviation, but who will win the second auction in this best-of-five contest?

Neigh Money, Neigh Problem - Hettie Jago, Tim Medhurst and their delightful white replica Jaguar begin in Henley-on-Thames, over 70 miles from their original setting-out point in Lewes. Tim is a dealer who’s travelled quite a few of these lanes before, while auctioneer and dealer Hettie is seeing a lot of this part of the country for the very first time. En route, Hettie comes over all animal-obsessed, picking up a fairground carousel horse and an early 20th-century Chinese ink drawing of some pigs. Tim’s shopping is as eclectic as ever, with him settling for a granite mortar and a GPO clock with his name on it.

An Unusual Oriental Nut - Today’s trip is mostly about historic Hampshire and Wiltshire, not to mention the fabulous New Forest – ponies and all. As it’s the fourth leg of our best-of-five road trip, our experts are very much here for the antiques. They start out in Lyndhurst and stop shopping in Semley. Along the way, Hettie ventures out of her comfort zone, forgoing the small and delicate for the large and unusual, picking up a large handsaw and a bronze three-blade boat propeller. Tim buys an unusual oriental nut, with nautical interest, and a very special coin. Who will win the penultimate auction in Lichfield?

A Whale of a Time - It’s the last hoorah for our two delightful experts in the shiny white Jaguar replica roadster. This time they’re in Devon, territory that’s familiar to them both, as Hettie was born in Somerset and Tim lives in Dorset. Hettie spends big on a piece of jewellery she hopes will give her a chance of winning big at the final auction. Tim buys a slice of a nearly 1,000-year-old building and a very interesting treen box. Then, after a brief break at the met office in Exeter, it’s time to head to the final auction in Lichfield, Staffordshire. Will this new friendship endure their last trip to the sale room?
