Description
Who is this course for?Non-native speakers of English hoping to sound more natural and impressive in their English. And hoping to understand everyday English and write and speak colloquial English. You will need to be intermediate level or above. What are idioms?Idioms are expressions we commonly use in English that may sound like nonsense to a non-native speaker. That is why we need to learn their meanings one by one.Native speakers use idioms every day in written and spoken English. They are so common that learning idioms is essential to be able to understand and speak the language. In this course we learn the idioms in categories to help us remember them. One category connects the first 32 idioms we are going to learn. They all use a part of the human body in their construction. For example: 'He is head over heels.' Which means to be deeply in love. What is special about this course?Throughout the course we use visuals to maximise your ability to understand and memorise the idioms. Why are visuals so important?According to Education Consultant Dr Lynell Burmark: 'Unless our words, concepts, ideas are hooked onto an image, they will go in one ear... and out the other. Images, on the other hand, go directly into long-term memory where they are indelibly etched.'One study found that after three days, users retained only 10-20% of written or spoken information but almost 65% of visual information. This course is divided into teaching sections and testing sections.By the end of this course you will have learned 65 essential idioms, and be able to write complete sentences using idioms to describe images. We hope you will join us on this exciting learning journey!
