Description:
Duplicate Files Search & Link (Duplicate Searcher) is an application for finding duplicates (duplicate files) and hard links, as well as NTFS symbolic links to the same file on hard drives. Duplicate Files Search & Link searches for duplicate files, regardless of the file name (using a byte-for-byte comparison), as well as NTFS links to the same file. This application allows you not only to delete duplicate files or move them to another location, as most other programs of this kind do, but also to replace duplicate files with hard links or NTFS symbolic links to the same file on disk (unique!).
Additional Information:
NTFS hard links are entries in the NTFS file system through which multiple file paths can refer to the same file on disk. NTFS hard links allow multiple files to use the same disk space (same file). For example, multiple applications can hard-link to the same version of a library instead of using separate copies of the library files. If multiple hard links point to the same file, then removing any of those links will not delete the file and free up disk space until the last hard link to the file is removed.
Peculiarities:
Free for non-commercial use.
The fast search engine can scan files across multiple independent physical drives in parallel, as well as read and compare multiple files simultaneously from a single solid-state (SSD) drive.
Allows you to detect directory entries that link to a shared file (hard and symbolic links).
*Since version 6, hard and symbolic links on partitions with Linux EXT2, EXT3, EXT4 file systems are also supported (tested only with the Ext2Fsd driver for Windows).
Allows you to detect audio, video, and JPG files that contain binary identical media content but differ in media tags or metadata that describe the content content. (New in version 7. UNIQUE!)
Allows you to replace files with hard and symbolic links.
When replacing files with hard links, an optional NTFS permissions compatibility check is possible.
Replacing files with hard links means linking multiple directory entries (filenames) to a single file located on the same logical drive (also called partition or volume).
Attention! Be very careful when replacing system files, backup files, and files that can be changed by users or the system with links. Hard links and symbolic links are no longer separate (independent) files, all links lead to one file, so changing the file on any of the links will change the contents of the file for all links at the same time.
Detailed visualization of links and grouping of duplicate files, as well as hard and symbolic links.
Filter and sort files according to various criteria, including the number of hard links and the degree of file fragmentation.
Supports long paths to files and folders (longer than the standard limit of 260 characters), which are often not supported by other programs.
Supported languages: English, Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Italian, French, German, Polish, Japanese, Chinese.
