Description
Executive Communication 101 assumes you have most of the basic writing and presentation skills. It is for those who are ready to fine-tune your messaging to communicate with greater clarity and insight, particularly when engaging decision-makers.In short, it includes the ideas that I find matter most for executives who want to level-up their communication. Executive Communication 101 is arranged around five core topics:Know what matters most- Trust me: TLDR is a myth (I share what really matters). - Leverage the brain science (Do you wonder why you read some communication and quickly close others? Think about this for you, but also for your audience.)- Make it easy to read, regardless of your communication format. It's the messaging that matters most. The format is secondary.Get the basics right - Write like you speak at work - Keep it active - Delete, delete, deleteUnderstand your stakeholders- Understand what all audiences need. Learn a framework for analysing your stakeholders so you understand who they really are.- Know what is special about senior leaders and boards. Their responsibilities are different to other leadership groups. It helps to understand how.Make sure you add value- Have a clear purpose. Learn a super simple framework for clarifying the outcome you need from any communication.- Offer a point of view. This is where the value, and the impact, lies.- Make updates work FOR you. These are too frequently a wasted opportunity. Make the most of yours so you stand out for the right reasons.Be strategic- Think first! Don't just write. It is tempting to dive into writing straight away. It feels busy and therefore, we assume, productive. It can also be a wasteful time sink. Learn how to avoid this trap.- Calibrate your effort against your impact. Not all communication requires the same amount of effort. Learn to differentiate and invest accordingly. This course cherry picks the 14 topics that I have found matter most in my two-plus decades of helping executives communicate better.
