To learn how to utilise animal assisted therapy techniques to help facilitate your child or teen's understanding of their emotions.
To provide caregivers or parents with some of the tools and techniques of animal assisted therapy to help regulate your child or teen's emotions.
To use the experiences of implementing animal assisted interventions in a way that will improve the relationship between you and your child or teen.
Apart from emotion regulation, additional education using the family dog will be covered, including improving self esteem, and managing anxiety.

Description
This course will provide parents, caregivers and beginner allied health practitioners who work with children and therapy animals, some strategies on how to incorporate the animal into ways to teach emotion regulation to their child or teen.We will also look at how to use your family pet to help build self esteem, manage anxiety and to teach the skill of problem solving. We will also explore communication styles, friendship groups and differences between people, perfectionism and setting boundaries.Animal Assisted Therapy is an emerging therapy and is used as an adjunct along with traditional therapies. I focus very much on the attachment bond between primary caregivers and child, allowing for optimal attunement and celebration of differences.Some of the benefits of AAT include:•Lowering anxiety levels. (decreased cortisol and increased oxytocin)•Reduced blood pressure.•Stimulates mental activity.•Improved self esteem and socialisation.•Improved verbal interactions.•Increased attention skills.•Increased vocabulary.•Improve willingness to be involved in group activities.•Increased movement and exercise.•Increased openness.Please note that all the strategies taught in this course are relevant to adults too! In fact it is really important that a parent or caregiver is managing their own emotions well before they can help a child or teen with theirs! Please enjoy the course !
