Four new determined chefs compete in the second Heat of the week to try and prove their worth to the judges. In the Skills Test, judge Marcus Wareing sets two of the contestants the challenge of preparing spiced monkfish and serving it with polenta and a chilli butter sauce. The other two face a task set by judge Monica Galetti testing their pastry skills with a twist on a banana sundae. In the Signature Menu round, the chefs have an hour and a half to serve a main course and dessert of their own choosing.

The first quarter-final sees the strongest five chefs from the first two heats return to battle it out, and the Invention Test sees them create a stand-out dish showcasing nuts. The remaining chefs must then raise their game yet again as they face the daunting task of cooking for three of the UK's most discerning restaurant critics - Jay Rayner, Leyla Kazim and Tracey MacLeod.
