Description
You may be taking this class because you are struggling with attention, focus, sleep, anxiety or other mental health issues related to technology. Though I knew about the influence of social media and other forms of technology on mental health from the news, it was not until I was working regularly with patients that had clear complaints that I decided to write this class. The experiences that people have had with technology and mental health issues have been getting worse. I say this as a result of having been working in the mental health field for over ten years. Learning to live with technology in a healthier way has not been a priority for many people because we aren't thinking of the long term consequences of technology usage. You may enjoy playing games, watching TikTok, chatting with friends, but with any of these activities there are long term consequences of possible loss of privacy and reducing our ability to socialize in person. If you are anything like me, you might feel socializing in person may be considered a lost art.In this class, you will learn what strategies to use to modify your use of technology. This is important for your mental health. You will learn about three strategies that I suggest implementing to protect your mental health from technological encroachment and harm. The first of these sections will discuss the mind body connection. The section will discuss the holistic nature of the mind body connection. It will aim to refocus problems we face with technology like anxiety and emotional distress so that they can be helped through body movement and taking care of body needs. The second section will be on gratitude and its effects on the human psyche and how practicing gratitude regularly will help you manage your stress levels and emotional disruption from technology and social media. The third section is about self management which I talk about here as the process of creating better systems and habits in order to fulfill important goals.In this class, you will learn what you can do to help you with your distress while using technology. This may be the most compelling topic of this class. For you, I have compiled here the most useful ideas from my research and readings on these topics. I have found increased peace while learning and writing about this. You will experience increased calmness, tranquility and direction in your life when it comes to technology usage throughout the day and night after learning the ideas presented in this class.
