Immanuel Kant was a great philosopher and one of the founders of the modern system of philosophy. He is in the row with the greatest thinkers as Aristotle, Isaac Newton, John Locke, David Hume, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, and John Stuart Mill. Their thoughts had strong influence on building the foundation of the United States and its endeavor of open society.

Kant published one his most influential works Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals in 1785 and the book was the first of Kant's mature works on moral philosophy. It still remains one of the most influential in the field as Adam Smith's The Theory of Moral Sentiments. Kant argued that his work as the foundational ethics cleared the ground for future research. He further explained in the book the core concepts and principles of moral theory and reasoned that they were normative for rational agents. Kant laid out a ground that the rightness of an action is determined by the character of the principle that a person chooses to act upon. The ground breaking principle is opposite to the moral sense theories and teleological moral theories during his time.

Kant's work produced great influence on modern philosophy and logic. His view became widely recognised as the foremost philosophical voice and his influence has been felt in nearly every field of the humanities and social sciences.
