Network Drive Control 1.69

Network Drive Control (NDC) for Windows Vista, 7, 8 & higher, both 32-bit & 64-bit, is an example of a utility I wrote to solve a frustrating problem I frequently encountered, namely wanting my network servers, both at work & home, mapped to Windows drives in a network specific manner. While one can tell Windows to try to map all of the drives at logon, I didn't like the long delays waiting for the time outs of the drive mapping for the networks that are not connected. (i.e. Waiting for the mapping of the home network drives to timeout when on my work network, and vice versa.) So I wrote my own utility which would examine the network environment after I logged in, and based on what network it found itself on, it would only attempt to map those drives it knew were on that network. Basically, I wanted the map network drives on login to function equivalently to the way the Windows "default printer" does by being network specific. The short of it is I wrote a two module program to do just that, and hence Network Drive Control was born.

Network Drive Control allows you to configure the automatic mapping of network drives when you logon based on the network(s) to which you are connected. And example would be to have your laptop automatically connect and map one set of network drives when at home, and another set of network drives when at work or school, and none if it detects that the PC is connected to a network where no mappings have been configured.
Network Drive Control has no limit to the number of networks or drives that can be configured (except Windows built in limits), and drive letters can be redundant. i.e. If on one network you like a resource to be mapped to drive, say, X:, and on a different network you'd like to have a different resource also mapped to X:, you can configure Network Drive Control to do so.
Network Drive Control utilizes Windows features built into Windows Vista through 10 (both 32-bit and 64-bit).
Network Drive Control is free and has a built in help function.
We add the usual weasel words that there are no warranties that this software will work correctly or will even run on your machine, and that you use it at your own risk.
Note: Cisco QuickVPN, used by some Cisco small business routers, does not allow the use of network names, and so Network Drive Control won't be able to identify the remote network. This is an flaw in Cisco QuickVPN, not in Network Drive Control. Cisco's AnyConnect used with Cisco's enterprise class routers does not have this issue.

1. Changed the dialog that displays the known & active networks from a simple message box to a Listview so that they can accommodate a list longer than the display height. If the list is longer than the Listview box, a scroll bar should appear on the right of the Listview box.
2. Added a fast ping to all potential servers as a way to stimulate VPN's. This may speed up Windows recognition of some VPN's. (User requested feature.)
3. Updated help files.

🌟 Scanning for adware and malware
To start a scan, press the Start scan button. This button will then become Stop scan. You can press it again anytime during the scan, to cancel the scan. The whole scan usually only takes a few seconds.
If you want to scan only the current user, uncheck Scan all users, before starting the scan. The SYSTEM account will always be scanned, though.
The progress bar just below the Start scan button will tell you the scan's progress, and a text label below the progress bar will tell you which section is currently being scanned.

While the scan is being performed, you can have a look the the items already found. Double-clicking an item automatically takes you to its location in the registry. You can also jump to the item's location in the file system, when available, by right-clicking the item's line and selecting Open file location. This allows you to have a better insight of the item, and decide whether you want to remove it or not.
Tip: To save time, while the scan is being processed, uncheck any items you don't want to remove, or whitelist items you don't want Ultra Adware killer to display in future scans. More info on the whitelist below.

You can quickly check/unckeck all items in the list: right-click the list to open it's context menu, and then select Check all, or Check none, respectively. The context menu also has a Open registry location menu item which will perform the same action as double-clicking the list item, as mentioned above.
When the scan is complete you will be presented with a message box telling you how many items were found, and you can access the scan's log by pressing the Menu button, and then selecting the View scan log menu item.

Quick Access Popup (QAP) lets you move like a breeze between your frequently used FOLDERS, DOCUMENTS, APPLISave thousands of clicks while browsing your favorite folders in Windows Explorer or file dialog boxes. Launch your most used applications, documents or web sites instantly with this easy popup menu and mouse/keyboard shortcuts manager. Gather related favorites in SUBMENUS. Assign favorites or submenus to keyboard or mouse SHORTCUTS. Or GROUP favorites and launch them in one click.

To launch the popup menu, click the QAP icon in the Notification zone, hit the Middle Mouse Button or press Windows+W (these triggers can be changed in Options). In the SETTINGS window, customize your QAP menu. Review shortcuts assigned to favorites or submenus in the HOTKEYS window.

To quickly ADD a new favorite FOLDER to your popup menu: 1) go to a frequently used folder, 2) click the QAP hotkey and choose ADD THIS FOLDER, 3) give the folder a short name ans save it.

In the MY QAP ESSENTIALS menu, choose the SWITCH menu to switch to any other running Explorer or application window. Use the REOPEN A FOLDER menu to reopen one of the folders already open in an Explorer window (very useful in file dialog boxes). Choose the RECENT FOLDERS menu to show an updated list of the Windows recent folders. Access the files or URLs in your Clipboard with the CLIPBOARD menu. Click the DRIVES menu to see the list of drives with current disk space.

In the OPTIONS dialog box, choose your preferred language, menu icons size, windows colors. Select the number of recent folders to display, add numeric keyboard shortcuts to the folders menu or shortcut reminders. Pin the popup menu at a fix position or remember the Settings window position.
