Description
Relationships are hard work. Whether we're actively in one, pursuing one, or focusing on the relationship we have with ourselves, our world does not often include the resources, the skills, the modeling, or the support system to be able to feel set up for success. I've worked the past 8 years as a licensed mental health counselor in hospitals, in psychiatric units, and in private practice with individuals, couples, and families and I've noticed themes and patterns in some of the main challenges people were experiencing when it came to the topics of relationships. I was privileged to get equipped with the techniques through my career path and I would love to pass as much as that on as I can to as many people as I can. Relationships are circular causality; we can take responsibility for what we have control of (our thoughts, our feelings and our actions) in order to help make our external environment and our relationships better. We deserve kindness, compassion, patience, safety, trust, and love in ourselves. This course is going to give many different theoretical perspectives of a healthy and successful relationship. Every person is unique and just like if you were coming to a therapy session with me, I'd want to equip you with all the options and let you find what works best. I want you to be empowered to trust your voice and to use the internal wise mind to engage in healthy relationships that you are so deserving of around you. The format of this course is going to be of psychoeducation and then allow you the space to explore and reflect yourself. There will be lectures on topics such as emotional regulation, communication skills, conflict resolution techniques, dating and social media, healthy boundaries, assessment areas couples face, goals for a healthy relationship, attachment theory, and love languages. These are evidence based theoretical practices and approaches that I share and work on in counseling sessions for you to learn from. There will also be reflection questions at the end of every lecture for you to hold that space for yourself and possibly journal or at least let sit for a while so that you can utilize what you pulled from that lecture and how you could incorporate it into your life. Again relationships are hard work. They take tending to and willingness and effort both inside and out. But they are SO amazing and special when there is safety, trust, honesty, validation, and emotional closeness. I wish you all the best and hope to offer some of what I have worked years on studying and practicing and educating people on. As I always tell my clients: "you came here, you trusted the process, you were vulnerable, you are willing to put the work in and that's why you're here. You deserve to reap the rewards of that"
