In addition, Dr.Web CureIt! automatically detects the language that the operating system is using. If the language of your operating system is not supported, then Dr.Web CureIt! will use English by default. All Dr.Web anti-viruses simultaneously use several methods for detecting malicious objects, which allows you to scan suspicious files as thoroughly as possible:
• First of all, signature analysis is used. It is performed by analyzing the code of suspicious files for compliance with the signatures of known viruses (a signature is a continuous finite sequence of bytes that is necessary and sufficient to identify a virus). The comparison is based on signature checksums, which makes it possible to significantly reduce the size of records in virus databases, while maintaining the unambiguous correspondence and, consequently, the correctness of detection and disinfection of infected files. Dr.Web virus databases are compiled in such a way that a single entry can detect entire classes of threats.
• After the signature analysis is completed, the unique Origins Tracing technology is used, which allows you to identify new or modified viruses that use known file infection mechanisms. For example, this technology protects users of Dr.Web anti-virus solutions from viruses such as Trojan.Encoder.18 ransomware (also known as gpcode). In addition, it is the introduction of Origins Tracing™ that can significantly reduce the number of false positives of the heuristic analyzer.
• The work of the heuristic analyzer is based on certain knowledge (heuristics) about the characteristic features of virus and, conversely, safe code. Each sign has a certain weight (a number that indicates the severity and reliability of this sign). Based on the total weight characterizing each particular file, the heuristic analyzer calculates the probability of the file being infected by an unknown virus. Like any system for testing hypotheses under uncertainty, a heuristic analyzer can make errors of both the first type (missing unknown viruses) and the second type (false alarm)
