In a piece featuring African and Western instruments played side by side, and inspired by the royal court tradition of the griots dating back hundreds of years, Sona Jobarteh unfolds the ancient stories of Manding history. This piece integrates West African and European instrumental interpretation; instruments are paired together in likeness in a unique arrangement that explores and challenges the capabilities of the instruments from both traditions.

About Sona Jobarteh
Sona Jobarteh is the first female Kora virtuoso to come from a west African Griot family. Breaking away from tradition, she is a pioneer in an ancient male-dominated hereditary tradition that has been exclusively handed down from father to son for the past seven centuries. Reputed for her skill as an instrumentalist, distinctive voice, infectious melodies and her grace onstage, Sona has rapidly risen to international success following the release of her critically acclaimed album Fasiya (Heritage) in 2011. www.sonajobarteh.com

Yaram work with artists to develop high quality content and of performances, present them to new audiences, and generally foster cultural awareness and social cohesion through music and arts. Yaram emerged in the mid 1990's, when it managed a community football team and began organising sporting and artistic events for the African Diaspora in London.
